Can Hand-Laid Fiberglass Shells Be Cured at 80 Degrees?
For hand-laid fiberglass shells, it is advisable not to heat cure above 60 degrees Celsius. Heating to 80 degrees can lead to color deviation in the gel coat. This is because the polyester gel coat used for hand-laid fiberglass components typically has a heat distortion temperature around 75 to 85 degrees Celsius. Therefore, heating to 80 degrees is not suitable. Additionally, a faster curing speed may result in increased brittleness and a series of other problems in the final product.
