How Long Does It Take for Mold Gel Coat to Cure?
At a room temperature of 24°C (75°F) with a curing agent ratio of 1.5%, mold gel coat typically cures in 1.5 to 2 hours. If heated to 60°C (140°F), the curing time is reduced to around 45 minutes. These are general guidelines, as curing time is directly influenced by the amount of curing agent and temperature. Note that ambient temperature may differ from mold surface temperature; for instance, metal molds often have much lower surface temperatures.
If you’re uncertain about specific factors, perform a sample test. Apply different curing agent ratios at the same temperature and compare the gel and curing times to find the optimal combination for your conditions.
